A Message from our Pastors

To Anchor of Love members, our families and our friends:

In a perfect world…….

How many of us used to sit and daydream when we were young about how life would be once we became grown?  Our minds would imagine all kinds of wonderful things – who we would marry, what career we would pursue, places we would travel, beautiful homes we would live in, things we would accomplish.   The possibilities seemed endless!   What child doesn’t love to daydream about what he will one day become?  Then, one day we finally arrive.  We reach adulthood and it seems the struggles begin.  What we had hoped would be our perfect world hardly seems perfect at all!  We begin to see flaws and imperfections within ourselves and realize that maybe we are not who we wanted to become.

What has happened is that we have come to the realization that maybe all of our dreams, goals and aspirations are not coming to pass.  Then, we sit down and take a good hard look at who we are and what we have become over the years.  We come to the realization that we simply do not live in a perfect world!  Oh how nice it would be to live in a perfect world.  No problems, no worries – but not so in the world we live in.  Each day we are forced to deal with our own reality; not only the reality that our circumstances may be difficult, but also the fact that we may never live up to the expectations of others or even ourselves.  What is expected of us in this life?  Who are we trying to please?

Many people try in some form or fashion to strive for perfection.  It may be on their job.  It may be in their marriage.  As Christians we strive for perfection each and every day.  We are familiar with the scripture in which Jesus said “But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect. “  (Matthew 5:48 NLT)  You might say to yourself, “Well today I set out to be perfect “, knowing in the back of your mind that this is an unattainable goal.  The reality is we will never attain true perfection when we apply God’s definition of perfection to our lives.   Psalm 119:96 (NLT) tells us “Even perfection has its limits, but your commands have no limit.”  Everything human and everything pertaining to humanity has its limits.  No matter what we achieve in this life we all have limits.  There is a point in which we will break, a point in which we will fail, a point in which we will give up.  The only perfection that has no limits is the perfection that comes from God!  His commands have no limit; they are eternal and they are perfect.

God in His perfect plan of salvation provided us a Savior, Jesus Christ, His Son.  He is there for each and every one of us to make us perfect in the sight of God the Father.  The perfection that Jesus tells us to possess is equivalent to that of maturity.  Let us go on to maturity. The Christian walk is a process that continues throughout a person’s life and that person should continually grow in maturity, striving for perfection through Jesus Christ.  It is a process that is never completed.

A wise Christian does not boast in himself, but rather is grateful to God, that through Jesus Christ, a way has been made for him to achieve perfection that has nothing to do with his own attributes and accomplishments.  “God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin.  Therefore, as the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord.”  (1 Corinthians 1:30 & 31 NLT)

May God bless you as you continue in maturity, striving for perfection!
